Season 8 review

Written by Team Garrett at 02:45 25/7-2009

Well here we are a couple of weeks into season 9! It's hard to believe that season 8 went so quickly. due to some real world distraction, namely my wife's car catching on fire, this release is a few weeks late! Team Garrett had another up and down season. Our goal of firmly entrenching ourselves in Div 2 wasn't fully realized until the midway point of the season. After celebrating our initial Div 2 Success we quickly came to realize we needed more training and more cash! After our second stint back into Div 3 our team trained a few more riders. We also had our first success in a breakaway with a podium finish for Maxwell Lattin. As our training camps concluded Team Garrett went through the middle portion of the season very carefully choosing races and maintaining two separate teams. An "A" team for targeted races and a "B" team of breakaway specialists and trainees. Our first win of the season again went to Robert Deason in Gorj-Vilcea. Perhaps the most exciting news of said race was not the win for Deason in the Salt Lake City GP, but the showing of up and coming star Clayton Plaster who beat the chase group up the tough finishing climb. With the 1,3 result Team Garrett not only solidified themselve among the Div 2 teams, they nearly broke into the top Div. The first race available to team Garrett that allowed 25-75 ranked teams resulted in a surprising 2nd place for Deason as we took a new tack and mixed the two previously mentioned teams into 2 teams that targeted specific races each race. With this new approach Team Garrett hopes to maintain it's place in Div 2 while continuing to race and train at the same time. Next seasons goals will include the opportunity to ride in a few division 1 races, perhaps even the perm or Germany tour. Our sponsors have expressed interest in global brand marketing and Team Garrett wants to please it's sponsors while maintaining a realistic outlook on it's chances of success in season 9.
